designed for classroom teachers and curriculum specialists
Outcome: Teams analyze units to recommend methods for supporting and verifying student learning for students with different levels of language proficiency.
Time Needed: 4 to 8 hours
The trick to using English Language Proficiency Standards to differentiate units of instruction is this: these standards are not your everyday standards. Don’t try to fit them into your professional work in the same way that you have worked with content standards.
The best way to learn is by doing, and that is exactly what teams of educators do in this training. This is a great opportunity to get hands-on with district curriculum guides and with the ELP Standards, in order to learn the process of differentiating units for English learners. This training will use the new draft ELD standards, including the amplified matrix for each grade level, to model effective units for English learners.
Get strategic about ensuring quality instruction for English learners in a workshop setting. Participants learn how to design one unit so that differentiated instruction and assessment can be built into future units as a school-wide professional practice.
