designed for ESL and bilingual teachers

Outcome: ESL and bilingual teachers
Recommended Prerequisite: Develop English Language Development Portfolios
Time Needed: 1 to 2 days

ELL teachers need the same professional tools as classroom teachers. Many districts are in the process of implementing standards-based grading systems but questions arise regarding English language development. Questions such as: Can we just import all of the model performance indicators (MPIs) into our grading system? Can we grade ELLs on the MPIs for a specific content area instead of on the content standards? Should English language development be graded? If so, who should grade it?

Get clarity about the best use of standards-based grading to track progress toward overall proficiency and towards benchmarks along the way. Never be confused again about how to articulate the unique qualities of ELD standards, curriculum, and assessment. This session is a helpful for ELL professionals who already understand the use of the ELP Standards when applied to curriculum and assessment of English language development.
